What is scoliosis?

RTG skolioza
X-ray of a scoliosis

Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person's spine is curved from side to side. Although it is a complex three-dimensional deformity, on an X-ray, viewed from the rear, the spine of an individual with scoliosis may look more like an "S" or a "C" than a straight line. It is most common in puberty and girls (idiopathic).
Scoliosis is typically classified as either congenital (caused by vertebral anomalies present at birth), idiopathic (cause unknown, subclassified as infantile, juvenile, adolescent, or adult, according to when onset occurred), or neuromuscular (having developed as a secondary symptom of another condition, such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, or physical trauma .  In adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, there is no clear causal agent and it is generally believed to be multifactorial, although genetics are believed to play a role. Various causes have been implicated, but none of them have consensus among scientists as the cause of scoliosis, though the role of genetic factors in the development of this condition is widely accepted.
It is measured in degrees according to Cobb. The higher the Cobb angle, the more crooked the spine.

Correction of the spine in an orthosis by Kuca zdravlja
The rotation of the spine is difficult to correct and it is possible only in semi-active braces like Cheneau or Rigo-Cheneau orthoses. Our orthotist, ing. Wuersching takes into consideration all of these correctional aspects, having in mind a more pleasing and discrete aesthetic appearance of the device, making them smaller and more acceptable to the adolescent patients and their social environment.
Pahtological position of the spine causes changes in vertebral bodies, tendons and muscles of the trunk. Sometimes, along with changed aesthetic appearance of the trunk, additional problems can be observed; such as pain, problems with breathing, etc.
